Veterans Memorial Banner Project:
Our Veteran Banners memorialize a Veteran, living or deceased, who lived in, or has strong connections to Merrickville-Wolford.
“A Veteran is any person who is serving or who has honorably served in the Canadian Armed Forces, the Commonwealth or its wartime allies, or as a Regular Member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, or as a Peace Officer in a Special Duty Area or on a Special Duty Operation, or who has served in the Merchant Navy or Ferry Command during wartime”.
Partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 245 and The Municipality of Merrickville-Wolford.
The purpose of the Veteran Memorial Banner Program is to:
Recognize and honour our local Veterans, deceased Veterans, and active service members or Veterans who have served or are currently serving in the Canadian, Allied or Commonwealth Forces that have a tie to Merrickville-Wolford. This could include those born in Merrickville-Wolford, those who have resided, or currently reside in Merrickville-Wolford, or those who have a close connection to Merrickville-Wolford.
To promote Remembrance in our community and to keep their legacy alive for years to come.
Put a face on the names of Remembrance with continued recognition and respect for Our Veterans. It will include a photo, name, military affiliation, and the banner sponsor and it will be proudly displayed throughout our beautiful Municipality of Merrickville-Wolford from Legion Week in September, up until November 12. The sponsor of the banner (normally family members) will pay $275.00 (includes taxes and shipping) to have the Banner designed. Merrickville Legion will look after everything else!
Legion membership by the honouree or the sponsor is not a requirement for participation in the program.
Each banner will also include the words” Lest We Forget”, a Legion, Municipality and Chamber logo, and a combined Canadian and British flag Banners will fly annually along the main streets in Merrickville -Wolford starting Legion Week in September until November 12 and each year thereafter. They may be displayed at Legion throughout the year on a rotation basis.
Through the displaying of the banners, we hope to engage the community in honouring and remembering local Veterans through an initiative that will ensure continued recognition and respect throughout future generations.
New submissions will be accepted yearly, as this will be an ongoing legacy project that will pay tribute to all Canadian and Allied Veterans and active service members, and no doubt grow over the next few years.
As a community that supports and honours its Veterans through community and school activities, this program will put a face on the names of Remembrance and keep their Legacy alive.
